Fit Check: Glutes, Glam, and Boutique Getaway Goals with Bernadette Fahey

Step into the stylish world of Bernadette Fahey, the reigning Pilates queen of North Bondi, famed for sculpting the city's elite.

A connoisseur of style and sweat, Bernadette Fahey joins us from the shores of her sassy North Bondi Pilates studio that has all the locals talking. With a roll call of celebrities, influencers, and the neighbourhood's most glamorous members, Bernadette has mastered the perfect glutes and glam at home in Bondi, but maybe most importantly, when on the road.

We chat with Bernadette as she unveils some of her favourite neighbourhood destinations, retreats, and boutique hotel concepts for herself, friends, and family. These exceptional destinations offer more than the usual escape; they are sanctuaries of wellness that indulge the high-flying fitness aficionado with rejuvenating spas, bespoke design, and local fitness experiences.

With exciting moves ahead for her self-made lifestyle brand and fitness business, Locay can reveal that Bernadette is about to take 'the Bern' on tour, and if our chat is anything to go by, we know this next journey is going to look as polished as her clients after just 3 of her signature pilates sessions with the Body by Berner team!

They say to create a life you don’t need a holiday from – so let’s start there, North Bondi. Tell us a little bit as to why you chose the local area of North Bondi to set up your first Pilates studio?

Absolutely, creating a life you don't need to escape from is such an inspiring way to live. Choosing North Bondi for my first Pilates studio was a no-brainer. With the beach so close, we get to bask in the most beautiful sunshine and take inspiration from the ocean. It's the perfect backdrop for uplifting the spirit and energising the body, right before or after a Pilates session.

North Bondi is also buzzing with great local businesses and cafes that also contribute to the casual and easygoing atmosphere of the area. We're all neighbours who are passionate about health and well-being.

You must have a steady stream of friends, family and visitors that want to experience a Body by Berner class – is there a boutique hotel in the area you recommend for out-of-town visitors?

You cannot go past QT Bondi with its incredible views and location.

This hotel has incredible views overlooking Bondi Beach and busy Campbell Parade, where there is an amazing array of retail and restaurants that see both fashion and food on your doorstep.

How about in Sydney – do you have any favourite neighbourhood destinations you like to recommend to those visiting?

Yes, absolutely.

Some of my neighbourhood favourites include:

Paddington: 10 William St. for a buzzing hole in the wall Italian diner that is authentic and pulls a great crowd.

Rose Bay: Fei Jei Restaurant is a local institution with sleek space. I love catching up with friends here.

Rushcutters Bay/Paddington: Bon Ricardo (an Italian institution in Sydney first opening its doors in 1987 and meaning Italian for 'Good Memory')

Potts Point Bistro 916: (a French neo-bistro bringing a cool, understated elegance to its landmark Challis Avenue site at the Paris end of Potts Point neighbourhood)

I also love being outdoors, with some of my favourite Sydney walks including:

The Royal Botanical Gardens

Palm Beach: The Light House Walk

Vaucluse: The Hermitage Walk

... and a visit to the Camp Cove Kiosk is a great way to soak in the best of Sydney's Harbourside beaches!

I cannot wait to showcase some exotic locations as I take 'The Bern' on tour... stay tuned!

How about any great boutique hotel destinations you would recommend or have visited in these areas?

I love a great glam concept hotel. Some of my favourite boutique hotels in Sydney include;

Capella Hotel (Quay Quarter, Sydney City) - an ultra polished hotel with amazing atrium lobby, spa and guest rooms.

W Hotel (Darling Harbour) – the infinity pool and 2  two-level rooftop bar offer some amazing views.

Osborn House (Bowral, Southern Highlands NSW) - such special interiors and their day spa, pool, sauna, and steam room are gorgeous.

Keeping fit at home is hard enough but even harder without a travelling reformer, gym or pop up Berner – what would be your top 3 items to pack to help you keep fit on the road and in your hotel?

Booty Band.

Hand Towel (rolled up)- this can be found in your hotel room and there are some incredible exercises you can do to work on your abs!

Small Pilates Ball.

In a hotel room and whilst travelling I can also get a little inventive. Wine bottles (full) can make amazing hand weights!

If you could get on a flight tomorrow, what 2 local Australian destinations would you head too?

Qualia in Hamilton Island.

Rottnest Island in Perth.

Any top boutique hotel recommendations in these areas you would love to stay or return too?

Samphire on Rottnest Island.

What is one of your most important features you look for in a boutique hotel stay?

I am big on Interiors and design. The hotel needs to feel cosy and showcase its natural surrounds. A great cocktail list is always a win too!

If you had one piece of advice for staying fit whilst travelling, what would it be?

Get your work out in the morning. This way, its out of the way and means you will be hungrier and take full advantage of the amazing breakfast ahead!

Where next? Any exciting trips on the horizon for the travelling Berner?

Yes! I am excited to go on to Kokomo island in Fiji in April.

I have begun planning a trip to Europe and am looking to take Bern on tour in some exciting locations around the world soon.
