Canberra Comes Alive For Spring: Top 5 of Where to Stay for Floriade

Usually known as a somewhat sleepy city that’s home to the Australian Parliament, and a hub of cultural and political significance – in springtime Canberra transforms.

To visit Australia’s capital during Floriade is to witness a real renaissance; as it plays host to the country's grandest flower festival, and becomes a beautiful and breathtaking canvas of vibrant, colourful blooms – unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

With the main exhibition held for free in Commonwealth Park – from mid September to mid October each year – what you’ll witness is a stunning display of over one million blooms, blending nature’s splendour with artistic flair, under the theme "Art in Bloom” for 2024.

Visitors can wander through elaborate garden beds, inspired by various art forms, from literature to architecture, and immerse themselves in a joyful celebration brimming with bustling markets, live music, food & drink stalls, cultural expressions, and creative workshops, making each day a unique adventure.

As twilight descends, the magic continues with NightFest, a dazzling after-dark spectacle that illuminates the gardens and provides a fresh perspective on the floral artistry.

Drawing visitors from across Australia and beyond, and having established itself as the premier annual attraction in the Australian Capital Territory, Floriade also turns Canberra into a buzzing town, full of life – and an extremely popular destination.

This year, around the same time (29 June – 7 October, 2024), Canberra will also play host to the Gauguin Exhibition – 'Gauguin’s World: Tōna Iho, Tōna Ao' – at its famous National Gallery of Australia (NGA Gallery). This will be a major event – and the first time Australia will be showing the art of acclaimed French post-Impressionist Paul Gauguin (1848–1903), so also an event to watch out for and add to the 'To Do' list.

These exciting happenings, of course, also mean that good accomodation, and top-class, well-located hotels in Canberra will also be hot tickets around this time.

Don’t worry, Locay has it covered – and we’ve put together a list of the Top 5 stays there, that combine great quality, comfort, and convenience – with a touch of luxury.

Book, stay, visit, and enjoy – Canberra is set to come to life, and it’s a memorable moment not to be missed; and a wonderful, fresh way to start the spring season, in style.
