    Putting the Ritz in Randwick

Randwick really could be one of Sydney’s best kept secrets. Often overlooked in favour of its more famous Eastern Suburbs neighbours, Randwick has more than its fair share of glamour. And all of this, whilst being in an accessible location conveniently close to the city.

In this historic suburb you will find trendy bars, casual and fine dining restaurants, an Art Deco cinema, and live music venues, not to mention stunning beaches and parkland right on the doorstep.

If you want to get glitzed up and have a night out on the town, why not stay at one of LOCAY’s fabulous boutique properties nearby? St Marks Randwick and The Alison Randwick are a short walk away from the action. Take advantage of their convenient location and great prices, and treat yourself to a bit luxury to sleep off that late night.

Read on to learn more about how Randwick puts on the Ritz. We’ve mentioned a couple venues in Coogee too because, well they’re only a short walk away and have a firm place in the heart of any Randwick local.

    Eating and drinking

    Bat Country

Exposed brick walls, chandeliers, Wild West meets rustic dive bar, serves great food and cocktails. It’s the perfect spot for pre or post movie drinks too, with the famous Randwick Ritz cinema just opposite. Check out their extensive tequila, mescal, gin, rum and whisky list. Get there between 3pm & 7pm daily for $7 happy hour drinks.

    Maybe Frank

Traditional Italian woodfire pizzeria and cocktails.
With dough rested for up to 72 hours, this is the real deal, probably the best pizza in Randwick. Plus with an extensive list of aperitivo and digestive cocktails, it’s the perfect place for lunch, dinner, and day-dreaming of that next European holiday. Oh, and did we mention happy hour everyday with $10 cocktails between 5 and 6pm?

    Clove Lane

Fine dining, modern Australian bistro takes it back to basics with a simple interior, classic wooden bistro tables and an open kitchen. The dynamic menu is season and suppliers, so you can always expect to be surprised with something new to tantalise your tastebuds. Oh and with a top-notch mixologist on-site too, you won’t go thirsty.

Randwick’s newest residential hub is also fancy new retail and dining precinct. Located on Barker Street, near to the Prince Of Wales hospital, you’ll find everything from great coffee and gelato, to ramen, dumplings, ribs, burgers and fine Italian dining. Whatever you’re in the mood for, you’re sure to find it here.

    The Ritz Cinema

The grand old Ritz Art Deco cinema has been showing films since 1937 and is one of only two Art Deco cinemas left in Sydney (Hayden Orpheum the other). With 6 screens, it has a great program of arthouse, festival, classic and mainstream movies. There’s a great bar too, featuring boutique wines and beers, along with signature cocktails. Take a trip back to cinema’s golden age.

    Royal Randwick Racecourse

Royal Randwick Racecourse dates back to 1860 and is Sydney’s longest standing racing venue, hosting some of Australia’s premier thoroughbred races. It’s also an integral part of Sydney’s social scene, so get dressed up in your finest outfit and join in the glitz and glamour. There’s nothing quite like a day at the races.

Legendary Selinas in the Coogee Bay Hotel was one of Sydney’s premier live music venues for decades, some of the biggest names of the time – Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, Nirvana, and INXS to name a few. After sadly closing in  2020 due to the pandemic, the iconic venue re-opened its doors again in in May 2020 with Locay Sydney legends Sneaky Sound System on the stage.

    Coogee Pavilion

This long-standing Coogee institution, affectionately known as ‘The Pav’ by locals, recent got the Merivale treatment with a stunning refurbishment. The family-friendly ground floor is perfect for a casual get together, with light eats such as sushi, fish and chips, burgers and pizza. The middle floor hosts a fine dining meditarranean restaurant and cocktail bar. And the rooftop, with four indoor and outdoor bars, wrap-around balcony and the best sea views around, regularly has live bands and djs. Time to get those dancing shoes on.
