The largest town in the Port Stephens area, you’ll find easy access to cafés, restaurants and shopping, as well as sheltered beaches perfect for families with young children. Nelson Bay is just under 3 hours’ drive north from Sydney or you can fly into Newcastle Airport and then grab a hire car for the short drive to Nelson Bay. More than 100 dolphins live in the pristine blue waters of the Port Stephens – Great Lakes Marine Park. There is a bike-hire service available to for the 5 kilometre Bartlett cycleway from pretty Bagnalls Beach to Little Beach. The heritage-listed Nelson Head Lighthouse, built in 1872, has a delightful cafe with stunning coastal views in the lighthouse cottage. To the east is the magnificent Tomaree National Park and Fingal Bay.
