This cool boutique accommodation hub is the perfect base camp for your next ‘down-south’ adventure.

Tucked between Busselton and Margaret River and three hours south of Perth is the thriving Southwest town of Dunsborough, traditional home to the Wadandi (sea people) for over 60000 years. Visitors come to the region to be at one with nature, hike coastal trails, visit wineries, and relax.

And where better to set up camp than Southcamp, an exciting new hub in Dunsborough embracing nature while being at the heart of one of Western Australia’s premier tourism hotspots.

We use the word ‘camp’ loosely because Southcamp village designed by Perth’s Finespun Architects is far from camping. The hub, owned by Atzemis family and operated by Dark horse Hospitality group, comprises a spacious brewhouse and beer garden, a café, and a gourmet supermarket and wine shop – Dunn Bay Continental – where you can stock up on the region’s best produce. Reminiscent of a village square, Southcamp hub embraces community where sandy feet are welcome and locals and visitors come straight from the beach for coffee at the cafe, or lazy late afternoon drinks that run into dinner while kiddos frolic in the sandpit, and run circles around the central grassed area.

Southcamp is a stone’s throw from the shopping and restaurant precinct of Dunsborough. Take a short walk, or grab an ebike from reception to check out the stunning Geographe Bay and white sandy beaches for days.‍

Snuggled into a bush and a native garden setting behind the brewhouse and close to Dugalup Brook, sit 18 tiny sleek black cabins encircling a lush, grassed area and conversation circle. Bean bags and beach umbrellas invite you to relax.

For those who need more space, two cabins share a deck. The second cabin is perfect for extra friends or family members, or you can book one of the two fully furnished and exquisitely equipped luxury apartments suited to four and six guests.

Welcome to the epitome of tiny house cool! Slide open the heavy glass door, and the smell of wood from the timber-lined cabin hits your senses. There’s lighting in all the right places, curtains that open and close with the touch of a button, and clever storage solutions so you can stow all your travel items. Hello Swedish storage vibes!

The main room has a comfortable king-sized bed with copious pillows and soft wool throws, plenty of natural light, and a small kitchenette with a bar fridge. A retro turntable with bluetooth speakers, and a selection of vinyl awaits those who wish to spin some tunes.

Other creature comforts include a big screen television with Wi-Fi so you can stream your favourites, a selection of books, and a luxurious rainforest shower head in the spacious bathroom.

Bespoke pottery cups from the local Happ’s Pottery Studio, and a selection of cutlery and wine glasses make these small cabins extra appealing, and beautifully equipped. A shipping container conversion by Finespun Architects completed in 2015 inspired the Southcamp design.

On the other side of the complex, two luxury apartments sit at treetop level featuring fully-equipped kitchens, laundry, outdoor BBQs, plus comfortable covered outdoor dining and living areas. Populated with local artwork and pottery items, they too have king-sized beds in the main bedroom and luxury soft furnishings, a rainforest shower head in the bathroom, Wi-Fi and Google TV.

Stow your luggage and take a wander to the brewhouse for delicious share plates, or pub style food washed down with your favourite beverage, or kick back in your cabin or on your deck, spin some vinyl and order some eats.
