BnA Hotel Koenji

Calling all artists and musicians, this place is for you!

BnA Hotel Koenji is an independent art hotel created by the Bed & Art Project (BnA). It's affordable, fun, and vibrant. Each room is designed and built by local Japanese artists, along with a team of architects, textile designers, and carpenters.

You have the option to choose from two styles of rooms. The first room, called "Into the Foreign," features a pack of wolves running through it, created by the artist Yohei Takahashi. The second room, named "Ten," offers an experience of the unique world of the artist Ryuichi "OGI" Ogino. Both styles of rooms provide two single beds, making it the perfect hotel to stay with family or friends.

What everyone loves about this concept hotel is that it’s known for supporting up-and-coming Japanese artists. They even have a gallery called "Backroom" that hosts many art exhibitions and events. The front deck and bar serve as a local hangout for artists and the creative community, so it's always bustling.

Koenji, the location of the hotel, is renowned for its music, vintage clothes, nightlife, and art scene. It is the centre for live music in Tokyo and has established itself as the hub of the live music scene in Tokyo. They say that in the 1970s, it was all about Japan's punk scene. Today, the area is filled with underground music venues and studios and numerous music venues called live houses and music bars, playing live music ranging from punk to jazz, pop, and more.

The area is also famous for its vintage clothes shops and has the highest number of vintage clothes shops in Tokyo. Koenji's shops are individually owned, with each shop having its own distinct character and style. A vintage shoppers dream!

As you wander the lantern-lit narrow streets of Koenji, filled with small bars and eateries that offer a variety of cuisines at affordable prices all night long, "Hashigo" (or "laddering") is what you will be doing, where people hop from one bar to another throughout the night, which is the preferred style here in this neighbourhood.

Home to musicians, artists, Marxists, students, and long-time landlords, all united by the unique culture and love for what Koenjo brings.

It's no wonder Timeout claims that Koenji is Tokyo's coolest neighbourhood year-round.
